Baby shower and weirdos at the spa | the lazy marathoner

I am behind on blog reading and I am behind on blog writing. Things have been busy lately ? all in a good way but something had to give!

This past Saturday was my baby shower. My BFF, K, flew up from Florida on Friday. She planned the shower and did such an amazing job.

Despite the long, traffic-filled drive home from the airport (the normally 30 minute drive took close to 2 hours!) our weekend was off to a great start simply by being together. We chatted nonstop the whole way home and spent the night relaxing and getting ready for the shower.

Saturday morning we woke up early and got pedicures. We went to the day spa where I recently had my prenatal massage and it was lovely. There was a? let?s say unique woman working (maybe?) there who amused us. I was unclear what exactly her role was, but it seemed to involve drinking iced coffee and gossiping with clients. She told us all about her obsession with some actor (Ian something?) and showed us several of the 180 photos she has of him on her phone. Yes ? this is a grown-ass woman, mid-40s maybe, married with a kid, who is so obsessed over an actor that she keeps 180 pics of him on her phone. Creeeeeepy.

This woman then told us about some charity walk the actor did: ?He did the Walk for Muffs. Not these muffs? motioning to her crotch ?but for dogs.? I?m thinking she meant mutts but what do I know, I don?t stalk the guy.

The shower itself was lovely. It was held at an inn downtown. It is a great location and the food and staff are fantastic. We of course got cupcakes from NoRA for dessert. Sadly I have very few photos from the shower (I forgot my damn camera!) and none of the cupcakes.

I really can?t express enough how much I loved my shower. It was small and intimate, which is exactly what I wanted (I?m anti-social, remember?). I think there were 20 people total, mostly friends and some close family members (I have a small family). It was the perfect size.

I was incredibly touched my everyone?s generosity.

We got so many wonderful things. This baby is very lucky! The funniest/most creative gift goes to my high school girlfriends. In addition to the bassinet, they also purchased bottles, nipples, dishwasher baskets, and bottle brushes ? which they dressed in a onesie and hat to make a baby!

It was awesome and I couldn?t stop laughing. Also note the football hat and Pearl Jam onesie. My ladies know me well.

We had to get a picture of J holding our ?baby.? Excuse the stupid look on my face. I didn?t see this photo or I would have demanded a retake.

It was an amazing day filled with love and excitement and I am so grateful to my friends and family for their generosity, and especially to K for the hard work she put into making it happen.

K and I spent Saturday night eating leftover cupcakes and relaxing (which, with two young sons, she rarely gets to do). Sunday we met K?s aunt in Hartford, and she headed to Boston to spend the day with her sister. She flew home this morning. I miss her already.

J and I spent Sunday putting away gifts, organizing the nursery, and planning the artwork we?re making and the bookshelf J is going to build. The nursery is almost complete!

We do still have quite a few items left to purchase, but we?re waiting until we get our 10% off completion coupons to take care of that. I do have a few larger BRU coupons going to use first, though, on the bigger items. This shit is freaking expensive but she?s well worth it.

Finally here is today?s 33 week belly shot:

I think after this weekend that belly is about 5% cupcake. And I have a few more at home still. I think J is afraid to eat them after The Incident, even though I keep telling him it?s fine.
